Frequently asked questions
A few things leaders often ask before getting started. Don't see your question? Get in touch and just ask.
How do coaching engagements work?
Every coaching engagement begins with a conversation. We start by discussing your goals, challenges, and the communication situations you want to improve—whether that’s leading your team, presenting to a board, preparing for a keynote, navigating media interviews, or building executive presence.
From there, I create a customized coaching plan based on your needs. Sessions are practical, interactive, and focused on real-world application, giving you tools and feedback you can immediately put into practice. Depending on your goals, coaching may include presentation development, communication strategy, executive presence, storytelling, media preparation, or leadership communication.
Coaching engagements can range from a single session to ongoing partnerships over several months. Whether you’re preparing for one important event or looking to strengthen your communication skills for the long term, every engagement is tailored to help you communicate with greater confidence, clarity, and impact.
Do you coach individuals, teams, or both?
Both. I work with individual leaders and teams across nonprofit, corporate, government, and community organizations.
Individual coaching is designed for executives, emerging leaders, and professionals who want to strengthen their communication, executive presence, presentation skills, or prepare for high-stakes conversations and speaking opportunities.
Team coaching and workshops help organizations improve communication, collaboration, and leadership effectiveness. Whether your team is preparing for a strategic presentation, navigating change, or building stronger communication habits, each engagement is customized to meet your organization’s goals.
No two clients are alike, so every coaching engagement and training session is tailored to your unique needs, challenges, and objectives.
Are sessions in person or virtual?
Both. Coaching sessions and workshops are available in person or virtually, depending on your location, schedule, and preferences.
Virtual coaching offers flexibility and convenience while delivering the same personalized guidance and practical feedback. In-person sessions are ideal for organizations, leadership teams, conferences, and interactive workshops.
Whether we meet face-to-face or online, every session is designed to be engaging, collaborative, and tailored to help you communicate with greater confidence and impact.
Where are you located, and what areas do you serve?
Vulcan Voice is based in Birmingham, Alabama, and serves clients locally, regionally, and nationwide.
I work with individuals, organizations, nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies throughout Alabama and across the United States. Coaching is available virtually from anywhere, and I regularly travel for on-site workshops, leadership retreats, conferences, and speaking engagements.

How long is a typical engagement?
Engagement length varies based on your goals. Some clients work with me for a single session to prepare for a specific presentation, speech, or high-stakes conversation. Others engage in coaching over several weeks or months to build deeper, long-term communication skills and executive presence.
Most coaching engagements typically range from a few sessions to 3–6 months, depending on the scope of work and desired outcomes. Workshops and training sessions can also be delivered as one-time events or as part of an ongoing development series for teams.
Every engagement is customized, so we’ll determine the right structure and timeline during our initial conversation based on your needs and objectives.
How is pricing structured?
Pricing depends on the scope, format, and length of the engagement. Because every coaching and training experience is customized, pricing is not one-size-fits-all.
Individual coaching is typically structured as a per-session or package rate based on the level of support needed and the length of the engagement. Team workshops, trainings, and speaking engagements are priced based on factors such as audience size, session length, preparation required, and whether content is customized or part of a broader program.
After an initial conversation to understand your goals and needs, I provide a clear proposal outlining scope, structure, and investment so there are no surprises.
The focus is always on delivering high-impact, practical communication development that meets your objectives.
What kinds of leaders do you work with?
I work with a wide range of leaders across nonprofit, corporate, government, and community sectors.
Many of my clients are executives, emerging leaders, and mission-driven professionals who need to communicate with greater clarity, confidence, and impact in high-stakes situations. This includes nonprofit CEOs and staff leaders, corporate managers and executives, public sector leaders, board members, and professionals preparing for presentations, media interviews, or leadership transitions.
While each client is different, they all share a common goal: to become more effective communicators so they can lead more confidently, influence others more effectively, and advance their work with greater impact.
Every engagement is customized to meet the specific needs of the leader, team, or organization.
What results can I expect?
Clients typically see meaningful improvements in how they communicate, present themselves, and lead others.
Many report increased confidence when speaking in meetings, presenting to boards, or delivering public remarks. They also become more clear and structured in how they communicate complex ideas, which helps them gain buy-in and influence more effectively.
Depending on your goals, you may also notice improvements in executive presence, storytelling, and the ability to think and respond more effectively in high-pressure or unplanned situations—such as media interviews or difficult conversations.
Ultimately, the goal is to help you communicate in a way that reflects your expertise, strengthens your leadership, and creates greater impact in your organization and community.
How do I get started?
Getting started is simple. The first step is to reach out through the contact form or schedule an introductory call.
During this initial conversation, we’ll talk about your goals, current challenges, and what you’re hoping to improve—whether that’s public speaking, executive presence, team communication, or preparing for a specific opportunity.
From there, I’ll recommend a customized coaching or training approach based on your needs, including scope, format, and timing. If it feels like a good fit, we’ll schedule your first session and begin building a plan tailored to your objectives.
There’s no obligation to move forward after the initial conversation—it’s simply a chance to explore whether coaching is the right next step for you or your organization.
